The Mayflower sailed to the New World in 1620 with families known as the Pilgrims. They reached America in November after 10 weeks of sailing, aboard the iconic sailing ship the Mayflower.
The Continental Congress asked Benjamin Franklin, John Adams, and Thomas Jefferson to form a committee to design a Great Seal. Franklin proposed the United States Great Seal to feature Moses, rather than the bald eagle. His design has Moses standing on the shore, parting the Red Sea, overwhelming Pharaoh who is in an open chariot, a sword in this hand. Rays from a pillar of fire in the clouds reaching to Moses, to express that he acts by command of God. Franklin added the motto “Rebellion to Tyrants is Obedience to God.”
The obverse has the Mayflower sailing across the ocean with the words Stand with God. The reverse captures Franklin’s original design and motto. The commemorative bears the weight of 1/4 Troy Ounce and Fineness of .9999 Gold
