Since its inception in 1986, the 1 oz American Eagle gold coin is the official gold coin from the U.S. Mint.  It has a face value of $50 US Dollars and contains 91.67% gold. The remainder of the coin is comprised of other composite metals which give it a hardness and keep it from scratching.   

The obverse shows the iconic design which features the image of the Lady Liberty designed by famed coin designer Augustus Saint-Gaudens.   

From 1986 to mid-2021, the reverse features a family of bald eagles around a nest. In mid-2021 the gold Eagle series got its first update with the reverse of the coin displaying the head of a bald eagle.   

The 1 oz American eagle coins can be found in brilliant uncirculated condition in full tubes of 20.
