The Canadian Maple Leaf silver coin is world renowned for its 99.99% silver purity. These coins carry a face value of $5 CAD backed by the Canadian government. Based on the popularity of the Gold Maple Leaf, the Royal Canadian Mint began producing 1 troy ounce coins with a 99.99% purity in silver as well.
The Maple Leaf silver coin carries the same obverse and reverse designs as the gold Maple Leaf. The obverse features a bust of Queen Elizabeth II, whose design changed in 1990 to feature a mature portrait of the Queen. In both versions, her name (‘ELIZABETH II’) appears at the top and the denomination of the coin and the date of issue rest underneath the bust. Coins dated 2024 and beyond feature the effigy of His Majesty King Charles III by Canadian artist Steven Rosati.
The coin’s reverse depicts a maple leaf, the national symbol of Canada and from which the coin derives its name. The reverse also lists the name of the country, legal tender value, and purity of the silver.
A full tube of the 1 ounce Maple Leaf silver coins contain 25 coins, which is the most popular way to acquire these items.
These coins are eligible for IRA purchases.
